Social Action
Vision Statement
The Social Action ministry responds to God’s invitation to live the gospel through our commitment to “Love one another, as I have loved you” (John 13:34). We recognize God’s eternal presence and our responsibility to care for the most vulnerable through our charitable works and advocating for social justice to effect change within and beyond our parish walls.
What Do We Do?
1. Collect sandwiches monthly for ImmaCare.
2. Collect coffee and sugar monthly for The House of Bread (done by Faith Formation Confirmation Class).
3. Organize drives for various items such as food, snacks and school supplies.
4. Prepare and serve meals monthly at
ImmaCare, Inc. from October through May.
5. Prepare, cook and deliver a meal monthly for Mercy Housing & Shelter. (Done by the Women’s Club)
6. Provide transportation weekly to Mass for a visually handicapped parishioner.
7. Sponsor the Angel Tree to collect Christmas gift cards and gifts for numerous organizations.
8. Make 750 Care Bags for the homeless and 150 bags for trafficking victims per year.
9. Participate in activities related to human trafficking, such as monthly prayer groups and the Care and Prayer Group of The Underground NE to help & pray for victims.
10. Oversee and fund our parish health clinic, Centro Medico la Amistad in Honduras.
11. Provide opportunities for prayer, fasting and almsgiving during Lent, such as Lenten Giving Cards, CRS Rice Bowl Collection, Bunnies for Hunnies.
12. Participate in GHIAA (Greater Hartford Interfaith Action Alliance) to organize and advocate for justice.
13. Donate money to organizations we support.
14. Help Wethersfield families in need as identified by the Town of the Social Worker.
15. Work relationship building with St. Augustine Church in Hartford to help break down racial and cultural barrier.

SCHOOL SUPPLIES NEEDED
The weekend of July 18th and 19th, the Social Action Committee will be collecting school supplies for the Town of Wethersfield Social Services and
St. Martin de Porres House/Hartford Catholic Worker. Please help us provide school supplies to children in need. We are able to help these programs because Christ the King parishioners are so generous. Donations of school supplies may be dropped off at any Mass on July 18th and 19th.
We can only accept new items.
Suggested items include the following: backpacks for all ages, spiral notebooks, 1 or 2 inch 3-ring binders, 2-pocket folders, post-its (3 in. size), pencils, pencil sharpeners, erasers, pencil pouches or boxes, pens (blue, black, red, or green), erasable pens (blue or black), markers (washable)
large or thin, crayons, colored pencils, highlighters, small scissors, glue sticks, paper for binders, drawing or construction paper, index cards (3×5), rulers, and solar calculators (TI-34). If you have any questions please call Lucy Russo at (860) 529-3698.
